Looking for somewhere to enjoy a few beers, dance to live music and meet fellow travellers in Padang?

Bat & Arrow offers a different side of the city, combining a riverside bar, Western-style food, accommodation and an open-air nightlife scene in one distinctive venue.

Located in the historic Batang Arau area, Bat & Arrow occupies an older building with plenty of character.

Its spacious, open-air setting beside the river attracts a mixed crowd of local residents, international visitors and backpackers.

While you can stop by for pizza and a casual drink, Saturday nights are when the venue really comes alive.

With affordable local beers, DJ sets and a lively crowd, it is one of the places to consider if you want to experience Padang’s nightlife without spending too much.

A Riverside Bar with Character

Bat & Arrow stands out from the typical cafe or restaurant thanks to its location beside the river and its open-air layout.

The older building gives the venue a distinctive atmosphere, while the spacious setting makes it suitable for everything from casual dinners to late-night gatherings.

During quieter hours, you can enjoy a meal, catch up with friends or have a drink by the water.

As the evening progresses, the atmosphere becomes livelier, particularly when music events are scheduled.

The venue’s open design is another advantage for those who dislike smoky, enclosed bars.

Cigarette smoke can disperse more easily outdoors than inside a closed-off nightclub, although the experience will depend on where you sit and how busy the venue is.

Beer, Cocktails and Western-Style Food

Bat & Arrow serves a selection of beers and cocktails alongside pizza and other Western-style dishes.

It is a convenient option if you want to eat before having drinks without moving between different venues.

Based on my recent visit, Corona was the most expensive beer on the menu at IDR 80,000.

Local beers are cheaper, making it easier to enjoy a few drinks without stretching your budget.

For travellers who have spent their days exploring West Sumatra’s beaches, mountains and cultural attractions, the combination of familiar food and cold beer can be a welcome change of pace.

Whether you arrive for dinner or meet friends later in the evening, there is no need to make the venue just a quick stop.

You can settle in, enjoy a few drinks and see how the night unfolds.

Saturday Night: DJs, Music and Dancing

If you want to experience Bat & Arrow at its liveliest, Saturday night is the time to consider.

When DJs or live music are scheduled, the open-air venue takes on the atmosphere of an outdoor nightclub, with music, drinks and a crowd ready to enjoy the evening.

My tip is to arrive around 11 PM.

By then, the music is already blasting and the crowd is busy, making it a better time to experience the venue’s party atmosphere rather than arriving too early.

The cheaper local beers are another reason to consider Bat & Arrow for a night out.

Compared with spending the evening at a more expensive bar, it offers an affordable way to enjoy drinks and dancing in Padang.

Based on my experience, it is one of the most budget-friendly places to consider for a Saturday night out.

The atmosphere depends on the events being held, so check the venue’s social media or contact the team before visiting if you specifically want to catch a DJ set or live performance.

Bat & Arrow has been reported to stay open until 2 AM on Saturday nights.

Check the latest opening hours before making plans.

A Meeting Point for Locals and International Travellers

One of the things that makes Bat & Arrow interesting is its mix of people.

Backpackers and international visitors mingle with local residents, creating a social environment that feels different from a conventional restaurant or bar.

For solo travellers, it can be a good place to spend an evening outside their accommodation, meet other visitors and strike up conversations.

Groups of friends can enjoy dinner and drinks before joining the Saturday night crowd.

If you are travelling around West Sumatra, Padang is often a starting point for trips to the region’s beaches, mountains and traditional villages.

Bat & Arrow offers an opportunity to experience another side of the city, particularly if you enjoy socialising and nightlife as part of your travels.

A Word of Warning: Bring Mosquito Repellent

The riverside location has plenty of appeal, but it also comes with a downside: mosquitoes.

Because the venue is open-air and close to the river, mosquitoes can be noticeable, particularly during the evening.

Bring insect repellent if you plan to spend several hours there. It is a small precaution that can make your visit much more comfortable.

The outdoor setting is still a major part of the venue’s appeal, especially if you prefer fresh air and more open space to an enclosed nightclub. Just come prepared.

Accommodation at Bat & Arrow

Bat & Arrow also offers accommodation, making it more than a place to visit for dinner or drinks.

For backpackers and independent travellers, staying somewhere with a social atmosphere can be appealing.

Having food, drinks and entertainment in the same property may also be convenient if you prefer not to travel elsewhere after an evening out.

However, if you are a light sleeper, consider asking about room locations and scheduled music events before booking.

The lively atmosphere that attracts people to the bar may not suit everyone looking for a quiet night’s rest.

Location and Visitor Information

Address: Bat & Arrow, Jalan Batang Arau No. 25, Batang Arau, Padang Selatan, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia.

What you will find: Beer, cocktails, pizza, Western-style food, riverside seating, accommodation and selected live music or DJ events.

Best time to visit: Around 11 PM on Saturday if you want to experience the busy nightlife atmosphere.

Beer prices: Corona was IDR 80,000 during my recent visit, while local beers were cheaper. Prices may change.

Opening hours: Saturday nights have been reported to run until 2 AM. Confirm the current schedule before visiting.

Useful tip: Bring mosquito repellent and check the event schedule if live music or a DJ set is your main reason for going.

Bat & Arrow offers a relaxed setting for food, drinks and dancing by the river.
