The Mentawai Fast Ferry is highly recommended for its convenience and efficiency.
It operates three times a week between Muaro Harbour in Padang City and Siberut, making round trips on the same day.
For a direct route to Siberut, we suggest taking the ferry on Thursdays. Alternatively, you can opt for a ferry to Tuapejat and arrange a speedboat pick-up to Siberut.
Mentawai Fast Ferry Rates and Schedule
The one-way ticket price for the Mentawai Fast Ferry is approximately 350,000 Rp (€23). Regular baggage is included in this price, but surfboard bags incur additional fees based on weight:
- 10-15 kg: 230,000 Rp (USD $15)
- 15-25 kg: 460,000 Rp (USD $30)
- Over 25 kg: 690,000 Rp (USD $45)

- Muaro Harbour Padang- Siberut: Departures every Thursday at 07:00, arriving at 10:00 after a 3-hour journey.

There are two Roro Ferries, KMP Ambu-Ambu and KMP Gambolo, serving various routes between Padang Harbour and several islands in Mentawai.

1500m runway completed as part of the new Mentawai Airport project. Makes it safer and more suitable for airline operations.
Larger airlines like Wings Air and Citilink are in discussions to provide flights, but routes are not confirmed yet.
Susi Air Flights
Susi Air started operating flights in late 2023 between Padang and Rokot Airport, Mentawai.
Flight schedule now includes three return flights per week:
- Padang to Rokot: Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 07:00am (arrives 07:40am).
- Rokot to Padang: Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 07:50am (arrives 08:30am).

Mentawai Surf Tax – A Mandatory Requirement
Since August 1st, 2016, the Mentawai Government has implemented a surf tax for all foreign surfers visiting Mentawai.
This tax amounts to Rp. 1,000,000 (approximately USD $80) per surfer and must be paid upon arrival at Mentawai.
The tax is valid for a 15-day stay, and the Mentawai Tourism Office requires a copy of your passport and payment.
Upon payment, you will receive a waterproof bracelet to serve as proof of purchase while surfing.
