Silungkang Oso Village is one of Sawahlunto’s lesser-known destinations, but it offers a combination of natural beauty, adventure, and local culture that makes it well worth visiting.

Located among the hills west of Silungkang Duo, the village provides a peaceful atmosphere far removed from busy city life.

The surrounding region has long been known for its cultural traditions, including Songket Silungkang weaving, which has been recognised as an Indonesian Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Traditional livelihoods, community cooperation, and local festivals continue to play an important role in preserving the identity of the area.

For nature lovers, Silungkang Oso is particularly appealing because of its limestone landscapes, hidden caves, clear streams, and scenic viewpoints.

Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure, photography opportunities, or simply a quiet place to relax, the village offers experiences that are difficult to find elsewhere in West Sumatra.

1. Visit the Ancient Rock Formations at Batu Runcing

Batu Runcing is one of the most popular attractions in Silungkang Oso Village.

Recognised as part of the Sawahlunto National Geopark, this unique geosite features towering limestone rocks that are estimated to be around 299 million years old.

The name Batu Runcing means “sharp rock”, referring to the pointed limestone formations that rise dramatically above the surrounding landscape.

The site is a favourite among photographers, campers, and nature lovers thanks to its spectacular views and unusual geological formations.

From the top, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the hills, valleys, and surrounding Sawahlunto area.

Early morning is the best time to visit, when the weather is cooler and the views are at their clearest.

Batu Runcing is also a great place to relax.

Many visitors bring snacks, enjoy a picnic, sip a cup of coffee while admiring the scenery, or even camp overnight to watch the sunrise and enjoy the night sky.

The attraction is located about 5 kilometres from the main Trans-Sumatran Highway.

The road is paved but narrow, steep, and winding, so careful driving is recommended. Large buses are not suitable for the route.

Facilities include a parking area, prayer room, restrooms, and an entrance gate.

As there are few food stalls nearby, it is a good idea to bring your own drinking water and snacks.

2. Swim and Slide at Lubuak Silaju

Lubuak Silaju is one of the village’s best natural attractions.

Located in Dusun Rumbio, this hidden spot is known for its clear natural pools, lush forest surroundings, and peaceful rice field scenery.

The main attraction is a natural rock water slide that has been shaped by flowing water over many years.

Visitors can slide down the smooth rock surface straight into the refreshing pool below, making it a fun activity for both adults and children.

For those looking for more excitement, there are also several spots where visitors can jump from the rocks into deeper sections of the pool.

Always check the water depth and conditions before attempting any jumps.

With its beautiful natural setting and calm atmosphere, Lubuak Silaju is the perfect place to swim, relax, and enjoy the outdoors.

It is one of the highlights of any visit to Silungkang Oso Village.

3. Explore the Underground Beauty of Goa Kelambu

Goa Kelambu is one of the most fascinating natural attractions in Silungkang Oso Village.

Hidden among the limestone hills, this cave offers visitors the chance to explore a side of Sawahlunto that remains largely untouched by mass tourism.

Inside the cave, visitors will find impressive stalactites hanging from the ceiling and stalagmites rising from the floor.

These rock formations have taken thousands of years to develop and create a spectacular underground landscape.

The cave’s cool temperatures and quiet atmosphere make it a refreshing escape from the tropical heat outside.

Guided cave tours are available for visitors who want to learn more about the cave’s geology and the surrounding karst environment.

The journey to Goa Kelambu is also part of the experience.

Visitors pass through scenic rural landscapes, dense vegetation, and beautiful limestone hills, making the trip just as enjoyable as the destination itself.

Silungkang Oso Village offers a refreshing mix of nature, adventure, and unique geological attractions.

From the ancient limestone formations of Batu Runcing and the crystal-clear pools of Lubuak Silaju to the hidden wonders of Goa Kelambu.

The village provides memorable experiences for travellers seeking something beyond the usual tourist trail.

If you’re planning a trip to Sawahlunto, be sure to add Silungkang Oso Village to your itinerary.

It is one of West Sumatra’s hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
