Welcome to Kamang Magek, a place brimming with unique and captivating attractions.

From the enchanting Tarusan Kamang Lake to the serene Embung Talago Mumbuang and the historical Ngalau Tarang cave, this destination promises an extraordinary adventure for all.

    1. Tarusan Kamang Lake

Alamat: Kamang Mudiak, Kec. Kamang Magek, Kabupaten Agam

Tarusan Kamang Lake is a captivating wonder with ever-changing water levels, creating an enigmatic allure.

Surrounded by lush hills, the serene destination offers a peaceful ambiance that soothes the soul.

The lake benefits both locals and tourists, serving as a valuable resource for fish cultivation and fishing.

Despite occasional dry spells, the lake remains a popular spot for swimming and fishing, inviting visitors to witness stunning sunrises and sunsets.

While its natural charm is undeniable, improvements in facilities and management are needed to enhance the overall experience.

The lake’s mystical appeal lies in its “magic” transformation, where underground rivers cause it to turn into a lush meadow at times, further adding to its ethereal beauty.

Over the years, the lake has been a site of multiple activities, from fish farming and buffalo bathing to fishing and relaxation.

During dry spells, the trapped fish in ponds become a vital resource for the villagers, offering sustenance during such times.

The remarkable transformation of the lake’s water into meadows and back is credited to the presence of underground rivers.

As groundwater rises, passages under the limestone hills release water, covering the grasslands and forming a vast lake.

Conversely, when the underground river descends, the water recedes, leaving behind serene meadows.

Interestingly, the lake’s receding pattern remains unpredictable, lacking a definite timeline.

For instance, last year, Lake Tarusan Kamang was dry for a year before magically reappearing few months later.

Today, the area remains a thriving lake, offering a delightful spot for children to swim and residents to fish.

Occasionally, the lake transforms into a lush pasture, lasting for up to five months or even two years during dry spells.

When the water resurfaces, it often triggers natural eruptions at the foot of the surrounding hills, creating intriguing sounds akin to boiling water, gurgling, and flowing water.

    2. Embung Talago Mumbuang

Address: Kamang Mudiak, Kec. Kamang Magek, Kabupaten Agam

Embung Talago Mumbuang, a pool of water nestled on the edge of a hill in Kabupaten Agam, Sumbar, has become a promising tourist destination.

However, to fully realize its potential, the touch of dedicated tourism activists is needed to organise and enhance the comfort for visitors.

The beauty of Embung Talago Mumbuang has already attracted locals and travellers alike.

Offering a serene natural setting over its 0.23 ha water surface, irrigating around 50 ha of paddy fields across three villages: Bansa, Babukik, and Alang.

With its picturesque rural ambience, the Embung is equipped with a jogging track, providing an opportunity for visitors to engage in outdoor activities and sports.

Located not far from Danau Tarusan Kamang and situated at the foothills of Jorong Babukik, Embung Talago Mumbuang possesses a unique charm that draws tourists in.

The mesmerising backdrop of Mount Singgalang adds to the appeal of this scenic spot.

Embung Talago Mumbuang has the potential to become a prominent public space and a favoured new tourist destination, owing to its captivating vistas.

The best part is that you can enjoy this beautiful place free of charge, making it accessible to all.

    3. Ngalau Tarang

Alamat: Kamang Mudiak, Kec. Kamang Magek, Kabupaten Agam

Ngalau Tarang, a historical cave with ties to the “Padri War,” holds valuable lessons and intriguing stories from the residents around Kamang Mudiak Village.

Once used for war strategy under the command of “TUANKU NAN RENCEH,” the cave now serves as a tourist attraction, albeit rarely visited.

It boasts two entrances from the front and one from the back and contains fascinating features, including a vertical hole allowing glimpses of the sky above and a statue-shaped stone on the wall, leaving visitors with curious questions.

Located on a limestone hill, Ngalau Tarang stands out with its bright interior, illuminated by sunlight that passes through the cave.

The easy access from the nearby village makes it convenient for tourists to explore, and its exotic stalagmites and stalactites appeal to nature lovers and photographers alike.

While caving can be done comfortably during the day, a flashlight is necessary for those venturing in the afternoon.

The cave also features a clear and refreshing river, adding to its allure, although swimming is prohibited to maintain its pristine clarity.

Tourists are encouraged to visit the neighbouring cave, Ngalau Kalam, for a different experience.

However, this cave is dark and damp, requiring a flashlight and a guide for safe exploration.

Overall, Ngalau Tarang offers a unique and enlightening journey into history and nature, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking an extraordinary cave adventure.

    4. Goa Binu

Address: Jorong Binu, Kamang Hilia, Kec. Kamang Magek, Kabupaten Agam

Goa Binu, located just 15 km from Kota Bukittinggi and a mere 200 meters from the nearest settlement, is a fascinating cave waiting to be explored.

Despite its captivating interior filled with spacious chambers and corridors, the mouth of the cave poses a challenge due to large rocks hindering easy access.

Consequently, few people venture inside, but those who do find themselves immersed in the breathtaking beauty of numerous stalagmites and stalactites illuminated by the soft glow of their flashlights.

The cave’s narrow entrance, measuring only half a meter, requires visitors to descend carefully with their heads bowed.

Within, Goa Binu stretches approximately 10 meters, offering a mesmerising spectacle of shimmering walls reflecting the light.

Three passages beckon explorers, but one remains uncharted due to its challenging terrain.

The local community is determined to improve access roads and conduct safety research to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors once it becomes accessible.
