West Sumatra is well known for its mountains, waterfalls, and stunning landscapes, but it is also home to some exciting white water rafting experiences.

Thanks to its rugged terrain and numerous rivers flowing from the Bukit Barisan mountain range, the province offers plenty of opportunities for adventure seekers looking to experience rafting in a tropical setting.

Whether you are a first-time rafter, travelling with family, or looking for a more challenging adventure, these rafting operators offer different river conditions, route lengths, and package options across West Sumatra.

1. LA Rafting, Lubuk Alung, Padang Pariaman

Located in Lubuk Alung, Padang Pariaman, LA Rafting operates on the Batang Anai River, one of the most popular rivers for rafting in West Sumatra.

The river features Grade II to III rapids, making it suitable for beginners, families, school groups, corporate outings, and travellers looking for a fun outdoor adventure without extreme difficulty.

The Batang Anai River offers a mix of exciting rapids and calmer sections, allowing participants to enjoy both the thrill of rafting and the surrounding natural scenery.

Along the journey, rafters pass through lush vegetation and rural landscapes that showcase the natural beauty of Padang Pariaman.

LA Rafting offers several package options depending on the distance and level of adventure desired.

The 4.8-kilometre rafting package starts from IDR 180,000 per person with a minimum booking of four participants.

For those looking for a longer experience, the 8-kilometre route costs IDR 270,000 per person.

Budget-conscious travellers can also choose a package without lunch for IDR 160,000 per person.

All standard packages include safety equipment, guides, insurance coverage, welcome drinks, basic medical support, lunch after the activity, and photo and video documentation.

This makes LA Rafting one of the most accessible and value-for-money rafting experiences in West Sumatra.

2. Sungai Angek Rafting Adventure, Simarosok, Kabupaten Agam

For travellers exploring the Agam Regency, Sungai Angek Rafting Adventure offers a unique rafting experience on the Batang Agam River.

Operated by SAR Adventure, this rafting trip combines adventure with local culinary experiences.

The main rafting route stretches for 6.7 kilometres and typically takes between three and four hours to complete.

For visitors who prefer a shorter adventure, a 3.8-kilometre route lasting around two hours is also available.

Interestingly, both routes are offered at the same price of IDR 300,000 per person, with a minimum booking requirement of four participants.

One of the highlights of this rafting experience is the inclusion of traditional local food.

Participants receive a lunch package consisting of Nasi Padang wrapped in banana leaves, while the coffee break features locally produced coffee from Simarosok.

The package also includes a professional photographer to capture the journey, making it an attractive choice for travellers who want memorable photos of their adventure.

The combination of rafting, local cuisine, and beautiful countryside scenery makes Sungai Angek Rafting Adventure one of the more distinctive rafting experiences in West Sumatra.

3. LM Adventure, Dharmasraya

Located in Nagari Alahan Nan Tigo, Asam Jujuhan District, Dharmasraya Regency, LM Adventure offers rafting on the Batang Asam River.

This destination is less known among mainstream tourists, making it a great option for those seeking a quieter and more off-the-beaten-path adventure.

The rafting route covers approximately 4.5 kilometres and takes around two hours to complete.

The operator offers two package options, both priced per boat rather than per person.

Package 1 costs IDR 450,000 per boat and includes licensed rafting guides, rafting equipment, local transportation, and rescue support.

While documentation is not included, guides are happy to assist participants in taking photos using their own cameras or smartphones.

Package 2 costs IDR 825,000 per boat and includes everything from Package 1, plus snacks, mineral water, and photo documentation throughout the trip.

Each boat can accommodate up to seven people, including two guides, making it a cost-effective option for families or groups travelling together.

LM Adventure operates daily and is suitable for visitors looking to explore a lesser-known rafting destination in southern West Sumatra.

The Family Trip package covers a distance of 5.5 kilometres and costs IDR 150,000 per person.

This option is ideal for beginners, families, and younger participants looking for a fun introduction to rafting.

For travellers seeking a longer experience, the Happy Trip package covers 9.7 kilometres and is priced at IDR 180,000 per person.

This route provides a balance between adventure and scenic enjoyment.

Meanwhile, adrenaline seekers can choose the Adventure Trip package, which stretches for 15.5 kilometres and costs IDR 250,000 per person.

This is the longest rafting experience currently available among the operators featured in this list.

All Pasbar Rafting packages include professional guides, rafting equipment, local transportation, insurance, documentation, lunch, basic medical support, snacks, and mineral water.

The comprehensive inclusions make Pasbar Rafting one of the best-value rafting operators in West Sumatra.

Which Rafting Experience Should You Choose?

If you’re looking for the most accessible and beginner-friendly rafting experience, LA Rafting in Padang Pariaman is a great choice.

For those interested in combining rafting with local culinary experiences, Sungai Angek Rafting Adventure offers a unique package featuring traditional Minangkabau food and local coffee.

Travellers venturing into southern West Sumatra may enjoy the quieter atmosphere of LM Adventure in Dharmasraya.
