If you only have one afternoon in Padang and want something simple and refreshing, this is a great idea.

The PT Semen Padang area in Indarung is not just a cement factory.

It is also home to natural attractions where you can enjoy fresh air, light walking, and a relaxing atmosphere.

This area is about 14.4 kilometres from Padang city centre. The drive usually takes around 35 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

The easiest route is along Jalan Raya Padang–Solok, heading east towards the Indarung highland area.

Both places in this guide are located along the same road, so it is easy to visit them in one trip.

Before you enter the area, there is one thing to remember.

At the main gate of PT Semen Padang, you must wear a helmet if you are on a motorcycle.

At the security post, just tell them you want to visit Goa Padayo or the deer park.

1. Goa Kelelawar Padayo

Goa Kelelawar Padayo is a bat cave located in the hills of Indarung. It is a simple but very interesting place to explore.

The entrance fee is about IDR 10,000 per person, which makes it very affordable.

The area around the cave is clean and well maintained. It is green, quiet, and shaded by trees.

The air feels cool and fresh, especially compared to the city.

Inside the cave, visitors can walk along wooden pathways that have been built for safety.

There are also handrails and soft lighting, which help make the experience more comfortable.

The lighting adds a nice atmosphere without being too bright. The cave itself is quite impressive.

You will see large stalactites hanging from the ceiling and stalagmites rising from the ground.

One of the highlights is the sound of bats inside the cave.

Thousands of bats live here, and you can hear them clearly as you walk through.

It feels natural and a bit adventurous at the same time.

There is also a small stream flowing inside the cave, which adds to the peaceful feeling of the place.

This site is managed by the local tourism group and supported by PT Semen Padang.

Because of this, the area is in good condition and safe for visitors.

Things to know before you go:

  • After entering the main gate, you still need to drive about 3 to 5 kilometres to reach the parking area
  • From the parking area, there is a short walk of around 500 metres with steps along the way
  • Some parts of the cave have a low ceiling, so you need to be careful when walking

Tips for visitors:

  • Wear comfortable shoes because the path can be slippery, especially after rain
  • Bring water and small snacks as there are no shops inside the cave area
  • Visit in the late afternoon when the weather is cooler and more comfortable

Taman Rusa Bukit Atas

2. Taman Rusa Bukit Atas

After visiting the cave, you can continue your trip to Taman Rusa Bukit Atas.

It is only about 8 minutes drive away and located along the same road on the way back.

This place is also known as the spotted deer park of Indarung. It is a simple but popular spot, especially for families with children.

One of the best things is that there is no entrance fee, so it is completely free.

At the park, you can see a group of spotted deer in a large open enclosure.

The deer often come close to visitors, especially if you bring food.

Many people enjoy feeding them with vegetables like kangkung, carrots, or green beans.

For children, this is a fun and memorable activity. For adults, it is a peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature.

The park is located on a hill, so the air is cooler than in the city. You will feel a gentle breeze and see green views all around.

It is a nice place to sit, take photos, and slow down for a while. Many locals also come here in the late afternoon.

The higher location makes it a good spot to watch the sunset, which can be very beautiful on a clear day.

Facilities are basic, as this is mainly an open conservation area. Do not expect cafes or large tourist facilities. The charm of this place is its simplicity.

Things to know before you go:

  • The road to the park is uphill, so make sure your vehicle is in good condition
  • There is no public transport to reach this area
  • The park is on the same route as Goa Padayo, so it is easy to combine both visits

Tips for visitors:

  • Bring your own vegetables if you want to feed the deer, as food seller is not always available on site
  • Visit in the morning between 8:00 and 10:00 or in the afternoon between 16:00 and 17:30 for cooler weather
  • Keep a safe distance and do not disturb the animals

A visit to PT Semen Padang area is a great way to spend a half day in Padang.

You do not need to travel far, and you can enjoy two very different experiences in one trip.

Start your afternoon with a short walk and light adventure at Goa Kelelawar Padayo.

Then continue to Taman Rusa Bukit Atas to relax and enjoy the open space while feeding the deer.

This trip is simple, affordable, and suitable for families, couples, or solo travellers.

It is a nice combination of nature, fresh air, and quiet moments away from the busy city.
